First off, [livejournal.com profile] helbing and [livejournal.com profile] almosthonest, you powers of narrative description over the LJ medium are *awesome*. Both of you really need to seriously consider writing in a fashion reminiscient of someone like Bill Bryson, or other such comedic geniuses. If you can regularly produce what you have produced so far, you could go a long way... *disclaimer - I'm not a publisher, I have just loved reading your recent LJ entries*

So, back to the present, or possibly the future. I'm on a training course in Reading at the moment, for some new software we are getting at work. This means that I have had to drive here (trains = expensive and do not take me where I need to be, and I worked out I could get a hire-car through work!). Since my little Felix is not insured by me to be driven on business purposes, I had to hire a car. It has a radio! and a CD player! (for those who don't know, my car got broken into in Jan 2005 and is still lacking the abovementioned articles). I had a pleasant drive listening to an Agatha Christie story, with a little of Classic FM thrown in when the single voice got dull. On this drive (and this is where the first sentence of this paragraph comes in) I happened to find myself behind a small, grey car, which had what looked like big exhaust squares on the back of it, and what looked suspciously like a "Mr Fusion Generator" thing on the back. Yes, I drove down the M4 behind The Delorian from Back To The Future (or at least, a copy of it). It was so cool! I went past him at one point, and couldn't resist glancing in through the driver's window - and yes, I caught a glimpse of the date display in there. We didn't quite get to 88mph, so whether there was the 1.21 jigawatts needed to propell the car backwards or forwards in time I don't know, but it was sooo coool!

Anyway, back to the training course. We get offered lunch. Now, my last training courses have also offered lunch, to varying degrees. My Sybase course in London in 2006 gave me a load of vouchers for KFC, Mcdonalds, Pret-a-manger... which was ok. My MQ Course in London in 2007... well, if I were to be able to search through my journal for the phrase "Armour plated potatoes", or "take a moment to have some silence for the passing of the World's Smallest Chicken" then it would take you back to August last year, and the god-awful food I was given by IBM. So, as you can imagine, I didn't hold out too much hope for this week. Boy, was I wrong. The Canteen is in a very airy place, has lovely food, and I get up to 6 quid free! Today, my Chicken and Mushroom pie, chips, bottle of lilt and 2xcaramel shortbread biscuits came to around 4.25! I think that at last, my training course food curse has finally gone! Hoo-bloody-rah!

Still, it's not everyday you see The Delorian!

Yay Delorian.

I'm told SAP HQ food is awesome (at least when you still haven't bought their solution ;-), and Siebel used to be pretty good back before Oracle bought them and when they were in the building just off the M25 in Staines.

Yay for Delorian, good drive, and good food. Miss you lots, enjoy the course, and have fun. See you Friday.

Quite impressive to have seen a Delorian - I'd have thought they'd have all fallen to bits by now.

Count yourself lucky, I get offered this tripe in the cafeteria every day. *sheds a small tear*
