I love cricket, but it can have the tendency to leave me feeling really despondent. Take today for example. We had a really good match, albeit with the opposition cheating like bastards because they didn't like one of the decisions made early on in their innings, which we lost in the final over. Why does this make me despondent? Because I was bowling the last over. I'd bowled quite well up to then. I'd got 4 wickets, almost taken a hat-trick and with the assistance of Greg at the other end, had dragged the game back from a game we looked like losing to a game we looked like winning. And then it all went pear-shaped as one of their guys took a chance with a couple of lusty blows, and it came off for him.

It kinda feels like it was my fault we lost. I know it wasn't, because a) it's a team game and there are 10 other guys on the field so to assume all the blame myself is entirely selfish, big-headed, and downright egotistical and b) the guy batting hit the ball well. Still, it didn't really put me in a very good mood after the game. The last time I felt like that was when Pilgrim died for the first time.

Still, it's only a game, and if I didn't give 100% then I wouldn't feel this way. So, here's to more despondancy when it all goes pear shaped again because if you don't give 100%, what's the point of doing it at all?
